Cuba prioritizes growth in 4G coverage

The Cuban Telecommunications Enterprise (ETECSA) maintains among its priorities to grow 4G network coverage in services to the population.

ETECSA’s Strategy and Business Vice President Adolfo Martínez explained that to achieve this goal, the country is developing access to 4G network technology in places where only 2G/3G services are currently available.

Alternatives are being implemented to expand the use of new frequencies, such as 700 megahertz (MHz), 900 MHz, and 2,100 MHz.

Regarding 700 MHz frequency, it covers the broadest area in the national territory and is ideal for low population density regions.

The development of 4G network technology directly depends on the transition to digital TV, which will free this frequency band to use mobile telephones, Martínez said, quoted by Granma newspaper.
