Cuba-Venezuela Health Accord Provides Free Care to Thousands

The Cuba-Venezuela agreement has provided free care at Cuban health clinics for nearly 55,000 patients over 13 years, the coordinator of that mechanism, Jhonny Ramos, said today.

According to Ramos, any Venezuelan with a difficult chronic disease is capable of taking advantage of the benefits of the agreement.

The treatment may range from surgery to a long rehabilitative process, Ramos told state TV channel Venezolana de Television.

Those interested in accessing the services offered by the accord have only to submit their medical report and identification at the government's social service offices.

The cases are evaluated by a team of professionals and later they select those who will access the treatment, according to the severity of the disease.

Diseases such as oncology, cardiopathy, motor and neurological disorders, and additions have priorities, Ramos stated.
